Get ready for an exciting new addition to our elementary school curriculum this September! We are thrilled to introduce Engineering by Design, a dynamic program designed to immerse students in the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) through hands-on, project-based learning.
Engineering by Design offers students from Kindergarten through 6th grade a unique opportunity to explore foundational concepts and principles in an integrated STEM environment. Each grade level focuses on a specific thematic unit that not only builds essential background knowledge but also culminates in a thrilling grand challenge at the end of the unit.
“We are excited to add Engineering by Design to our elementary school community this September,” shares Tiffany Heroth, an elementary teacher at Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville. This innovative curriculum promises to engage students in hands-on, project-based learning that integrates STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) concepts from Kindergarten through 6th grade.
“This program not only enhances academic learning but also exposes students to potential careers in technology, innovation, design, and engineering,” Heroth explains. By participating in Engineering by Design, students develop crucial skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration, preparing them for future challenges.
To ensure comprehensive engagement, students from Kindergarten to 6th grade will be divided into three cohorts, with each cohort attending daily for 8-10 weeks per academic year. This structured approach aims to provide deep immersion and meaningful learning experiences tailored to each grade level.
“We are excited about the possibilities that Engineering by Design brings to our elementary school,” Heroth states. “It is set to be a transformative addition to our curriculum, empowering our young learners with the skills they need to succeed.”
